We've been stampeded by PR and NYRA "news"...
ALL telling us that GENTING MALAYSIA has "SAVED NYRA" with their winning bid to operate a "VLT RACINO" at Aqueduct Race Track in New York City.
UNFORTUNATELY for us Spa Locals... and our horsemen expecting
$11 million in 2011... and fans of the Race Course expecting improvements worth $77 million over five years...but ALL LOCAL revenue will be a PERCENTAGE of Genting's projected GROSS revenue. And Genting is expecting $650 MILLION in gross annual gaming revenue.
THE PROBLEMS appear everywhere in the GENTING PROPOSAL...
in THEIR words.
GENTING's belief is that Albany will re-write the gaming laws, allowing GENTING to open a full-service tables-and-craps CASINO with no Tribal ownership. Their belief is that the horsetrack can be paved over. The crime is that New York's officials never informed GENTING of the TRUE realities of The Empire State.
They've started their campaign for a FULL-ON CASINO, as reported by James Odato of the Times-Union... but GENTING's dreams fall a few chips short of NYS reality. (story)
When realitiy hits, GENTING will need SOMETHING to serve as their MAIN ATTRACTION. And so it has come to pass that talk of a CONVENTION CENTER is going around.
